The Royal Festival Hall stands at the heart of Southbank Centre complex. Opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, the Hall is one of the world’s leading performance venues. As well as the auditorium, the building consists of The Clore Ballroom, Southbank Centre Shop, several places to eat and drink, and the Saison Poetry Library.
Rhythm is a complex large-scale illustration that encompasses eight different visual strands. Each strand – e.g. Dancer on a Tightrope: Shostakovich and his heirs and International Piano Series – corresponds with a musical event held at the Royal Festival Hall.
Rhythm was a vital component in the visual identity for the Classical Music marketing campaign 2006–2007 and the illustration was applied in print and advertising as well as web and screen. Commissioned by the design department at the Royal Festival Hall.
