A different path, Memories

Understanding that cancer today is such a pervasive killer that few go through life untouched by the disease, Designers Against Human Rights Abuse (DAHRA), Subism, OneTenEleven Media and editor Garrick Webster, decided in 2010 to launch Memories. The goal with Memories was to produce a beautiful art book, and to give the proceeds from the sales to the charity Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres.

The project team explains the idea of the book with these words: "Memories will look at the thoughts and experiences of individuals who have survived cancer, as well as those of people who have lost loved ones. [...] For each of these 'memories' a dozen leading artists, illustrators and designers will be creating their own visual response."

Edvard Scott was invited to participate in the book and created A different path based on a story by Wendy Nichols, who tells a story about remembering the moment when, with the help of a friend and a good book, she took control of her life again.
